If you’re at AWS re:Invent and reading this, you’re probably done with eating at typical options of casino buffet and other chain restaurant options off the strip. After day 2 or 3, it’s very easy to get sick of the typical pizza, pasta, sandwiches, and burger, options available to you. That means it’s time to venture off the strip and look for other options available!

Might I suggest other options such as Chinese food off the strip?

Las Vegas has come to its own in the last 5-10 years as a hub for great Chinese food in North America, even with its own Chinatown. With the increase of Chinese tourists in Vegas, excellent Chinese restaurants sprouted to serve that clientele visiting from China and other parts of North America. If you’re looking to try something new, here are a few great options worth checking out:

Chinese Food Options in Las Vegas

Yum Cha – Cantonese Dim Sum

Yum cha - Chinese food options in las vegas

Yum Cha translates directly to “Drink Tea” in Cantonese, which can be referenced to having a cuisine called “dim sum”. Dim sum is a large range of small Chinese dishes (traditionally Cantonese) that is enjoyed over breakfast or lunch. Since the plates are small, having dim sum would be a great group activity to enjoy over brunch or lunch with friends.

A few dim sum dishes worth trying: Hagow (Shrimp Dumpling), Shumai, BBQ Pork Bun, Pork Veg Tofu Skin Roll, Baked Lava Custard Bun, Lotus Leaf Sticky Rice.

Another great option for Dim Sum, Hong Kong Garden Seafood • Dim Sum Cafe.

Win Kee HK BBQ & Noodle 榮記燒味

Cantonese siu mei is something I seek out any time I am back in Hong Kong or whenever I am visiting a Chinatown in North America. This is my comfort food as a Chinese-American.

Las Vegas has a great place called Win Kee HK BBQ and Noodle serving up delicious Soy Sauce Chicken, BBQ pork, Crispy Roast Pork, and Roast duck. With such an assortment of roasted meats available, you can choose multiple combinations of these over noodles or rice. I recommend getting a combination of two meats over rice, BBQ Pork, and Crispy Roast Pork or the Won Ton Noodle Soup with Roast Duck or BBQ Pork.

Another great option for Hong Kong Style BBQ, BBQ King.

Noodle Pot

My wife’s family is Taiwanese so naturally, Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup has been a big part of my life the past decade. Dottie on her blog, Dots on a Map, breaks down this iconic Taiwanese dish the best:

“Taiwanese beef noodle soup, 台湾牛肉面 (tai wan niu rou mian), is an iconic Taiwanese dish featuring rich simmered beef broth, slow-braised stew beef and beef tendon, and hand-pulled noodles. Think of it as the comfort food of an entire nation. A variety of ingredients are used as toppings, the most common being pickled mustard greens, blanched bok choy, and a generous spoonful of chili sauce.”

I recommend the Stewed Beef w/ Noodle in Spicy Beef Soup (obviously) and other Taiwanese dishes, Fried Pork Chop w/ Rice, Braised Minced Pork over Rice, Beef Rolls or the Scallions Pancakes.

Conclusion

There are many other options for Chinese food and other Asian cuisines like Korean BBQ and Vietnamese worth checking out. When we went to re:Invent in 2019, we took Stephen Brandon and his team from Coffee Meets Bagel (one of our customers) to an AYCE Korean BBQ. We still talk about that dinner today and how amazing it was.

Be adventurous and try something new outside of the typical options on the strip in Vegas! If you need other recommendations of where to go, feel free to reach out. I love opporuntunuties to share my culture and my love for Chinese food with others that are genuinely interested! [email protected]
